We are a Somerset based pressure group who have had enough of the traffic situation in and around the Bridgwater area. We are seeking more involvement and respect for the local community from the organisations involved with the Hinkley Point C Nuclear Power Station such as EDF Energy and Bridgwater Gateway Limited who have proposed large scale building projects in the area.
We are not against the Hinkley Point C Development we just want the area and the people who live in it to be treated fairly. We are calling on EDF Energy to provide a Bridgwater Northern Bypass from Junction 23 of the M5 to connect up with the A39 west of Cannington. The bypass would ensure that Hinkley Point construction traffic would avoid Bridgwater’s already over congested roads and leave the whole area a worthwhile legacy after the construction of the Hinckley Point C Nuclear Development is complete. In addition to this a bypass would render the need for an EDF facility and the proposed Bridgwater Gateway Development near junction 24 of the M5 an unnecessary and unjustifiable intrusion on farmland close to the residential area of North Petherton.
We understand that the Hinkley Point C development is in the national interest however if EDF Energy is going to proceed with the project the town of Bridgwater and the surrounding area must not be destroyed by traffic in the process. It is unreasonable and irresponsible of EDF Energy to put all the vehicular construction traffic over the already congested roads in and around Bridgwater.
You can help us by signing our petition calling for a Bridgwater Northern Bypass and getting involved as a member or sponsor of STAG.
